For this recipe, pork sausage is what is usually used especially in chip shops that serve battered sausage. I personally love Farmers Choice pork sausages but you can use whatever sausage you love from your local supermarket.
And oh, a chip shop basically means a chips and fish spot and this is where you would commonly find battered sausage being served.

To make battered sausage, you’ll need the following ingredients: sausage, flour, water, egg, oil and some seasoning.

Below are the ingredients needed to make this battered sausage recipe without beer:
- Sausages: This isn’t going to be a battered sausage recipe without the sausages. I prefer using pork sausages but you can use whatever sausages you like for this recipe.
- Water– to create a smooth batter when added to the flour.
- Oil – to fry the battered sausages for this recipe. You can use any type of oil available to you. Make sure the oil is hot before adding the sausages.
- Plain flour– to make the batter that the sausages will be dipped into.
Battered Sausage:
- ▢6 Pork Sausages
- ▢1/4 cup flour
- ▢ Vegatable oil for frying
- ▢½ tsp Baking powder
- ▢1 Egg
- ▢1 tsp Salt
- ▢ Water
To serve:
- Peri Peri Fries

- Add oil in a frying pan and heat it over medium high heat.
- Whisk one egg in a bowl until it becomes fluffy.
- In a clean mixing bowl, add in your flour, salt and baking powder and incorporate everything together.
- Lightly roll your sausages in this flour and place them aside on another plate before adding the water and egg mixture to the flour. This will help the batter adhere better to the sausages.
- Add water to this flour mixture until you get a smooth consistency.
- Coat your sausages in this batter evenly and add them into the oil and fry for about 4 to 5 minutes until golden brown.
- Place your sausages on plate covered with paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
