Masala chips/fries is an amazing and tasty food that is made by adding extra spices and toppings to ordinary fries such as garlic, cumin, masala sauce and onions. There are very many variations of Masala chips but today I will be sharing with you on how to make masala chips Kenyan style.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons  oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 tsp  paprika
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 4 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • Cooked French fries hot
  • salt, to taste
  • Cilantro for garnish

How to make

  1. Prepare your chips or french fries.
  2. In a pan, heat oil over medium heat and add the chopped onions and cooks until soft.
  3. Add the garlic and tomato paste and let it fry for a few minutes.
  4. Add all the other spices including the ketchup and mix well.
  5. Let it cook for 5 minutes and add the fries and let it coat the fries evenly.
  6. Serve and enjoy immediately.

Tips

  • Serve this dish immediately.
  • Garnish with thinly sliced onions

How to store

This Kenyan Masala Chips is best served hot and fresh. It typically tends to get soggy when it stays overnight but keep any leftovers in an airtight container and reheat it in the microwave.
