Blueberry Lemonade

Blueberry Lemonade pinit

Blueberry lemonade quickly became one of my favorite homemade drinks after a trip to the farmers market left me with more fresh blueberries than I knew what to do with. I had already baked a batch of muffins, but there were still plenty left, so I blended a handful into fresh lemonade. Honestly, it turned out even better than I expected.

The blueberries add a naturally sweet, fruity flavor while the fresh lemons keep the drink bright and refreshing. It’s a beautiful drink for warm afternoons, picnics, backyard barbecues, or simply keeping a pitcher in the fridge during the summer. If you already enjoy recipes like Frozen Pink Lemonade, Classic Homemade Lemonade, or Grape Lemonade, this blueberry lemonade fits perfectly into that homemade drink collection.

Why You Will Love This Blueberry Lemonade

What I love most about this recipe is the balance of sweet blueberries and tart lemons.

The fresh fruit gives the lemonade a beautiful natural color without artificial ingredients.

Another thing I like is that it’s easy to make ahead for parties and gatherings.

It’s also refreshing enough to enjoy all summer long.

What You Will Need For Blueberry Lemonade

A small saucepan works best for making the blueberry syrup.

You’ll also need a blender if you prefer blending the berries instead.

A fine mesh strainer helps create a smoother lemonade.

A large pitcher makes mixing and serving easy.

Ingredients For Blueberry Lemonade

For The Blueberry Syrup

  • 1½ cups fresh blueberries
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water

The Lemonade

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 5 to 6 lemons)
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes

For Garnish

  • Fresh blueberries
  • Lemon slices
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional)

How To Make Blueberry Lemonade

Add the blueberries, sugar, and ½ cup of water to a small saucepan.

Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

Cook for about 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the blueberries burst.

Remove from the heat.

Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer and allow it to cool.

In a large pitcher, combine the cooled blueberry syrup, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and cold water.

Stir well.

Taste and adjust the sweetness if needed.

Serve over ice.

Garnish with fresh blueberries, lemon slices, and mint if desired.

I usually let the lemonade chill for about an hour before serving because honestly the flavors become even better once they’re well chilled. This blueberry lemonade also goes really well with Chicken Wrap With Avocado Salsa, Mexican Street Corn, or Chicken Sausage Tacos for a refreshing summer meal.

Tips For Blueberry Lemonade

Fresh blueberries give the brightest flavor, but frozen blueberries work well too.

Strain the syrup if you prefer a smoother lemonade.

Taste before serving and adjust the sweetness to your preference.

Frozen blueberries honestly make great ice cubes that won’t water down the drink.
