Hibiscus Ginger Iced Tea

Hibiscus Ginger Tea pinit

It was a hot Sunday afternoon when i decided to make hibiscus ginger iced tea after getting tired of the same store-bought drinks every week. I wanted something refreshing that actually tasted homemade, and once I combined tart hibiscus with fresh ginger, it quickly became one of my favorite drinks to keep in the fridge.

The hibiscus gives the tea a bright fruity flavor while the ginger adds just enough warmth and spice to keep things interesting. It’s refreshing, easy to make, and honestly one of those drinks that looks as good as it tastes. I’ve made this for hot afternoons, brunches, backyard gatherings, and random days when plain water just was not cutting it. If you already enjoy recipes like Strawberry Sweet Iced Tea, Lemon Vanilla Iced Tea, or Pineapple Ginger Iced Tea, this hibiscus ginger iced tea fits perfectly into that homemade drink rotation.

Why You Will Love This Hibiscus Ginger Iced Tea

What I love most about this tea is how refreshing it is without tasting overly sweet.

The hibiscus gives it a beautiful color and slightly tart flavor while the ginger adds a little kick.

Another thing I like is that it tastes great both lightly sweetened or completely unsweetened.

It’s also easy to make ahead and keep chilled in the fridge for several days.

What You Will Need For Hibiscus Ginger Iced Tea

A medium saucepan works best for steeping the hibiscus flowers and ginger properly.

You’ll also need a fine mesh strainer for removing the flowers and ginger before chilling.

A large pitcher works well for storing the tea in the refrigerator.

If you like serving drinks over lots of ice, a good ice tray honestly comes in handy here.

Ingredients Needed

  • 6 cups water
  • ½ cup dried hibiscus flowers
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices for serving

How To Make The Tea

Add the water to a saucepan and bring it to a boil.

Remove the saucepan from the heat.

Add the dried hibiscus flowers and sliced ginger.

Cover and let everything steep for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Strain the tea into a large pitcher.

Stir in the honey and lemon juice while the tea is still warm.

Let the tea cool completely.

Transfer to the refrigerator and chill until cold.

Serve over ice with lemon slices if desired.

I usually make a double batch because honestly it disappears much faster than I expect every time. This hibiscus ginger iced tea also goes really well with Orange Cinnamon Rolls, Caprese Tea Sandwiches, or even Avocado And Sprout Sandwiches if you’re putting together a brunch or light lunch.

Tips For Hibiscus Ginger Iced Tea

Fresh ginger gives the best flavor here, so I would skip powdered ginger if possible.

If you like stronger ginger flavor, let it steep a little longer before straining.

Taste before adding all the sweetener because hibiscus can vary in tartness.

Serve it really cold for the best flavor honestly.
