Ingredients For Making Meat Pies

For The Fillings

  • 250 g minced beef
  • 1 bell pepper cut into small cubes
  • 2 carrots grated
  • 1 onion cut into small cubes
  • 5 garlic cloves crushed
  • 1 tbs. cooking oil
  • 1/4 tsp. thyme
  • salt to taste

For The Crust Pastry

  • 225 g wheat flour
  • 125 g butter
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 160 ml cold water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbs. milk

How To Prepare Meat Pies

  1. Sieve the wheat flour into a mixing bowl, add the butter, salt and rub in the butter into the the wheat flour to form bread crumbs consistency.
  2. Add the water bit by bit mixing with your hand to form a dough. Gently press and fold the dough a few times to bring it together. Don’t overwork the dough.
  3. Put the dough in a zip lock bag or plastic bag and refrigerate for 30 minutes or more.
  4. As the dough is in the fridge, put a sauce pan on heat and add some cooking oil, add the onions and sauté them, then add the garlic and cook for about 2 minutes.
  5. Add the thyme and cook for 2 minutes. Add the minced beef and mix well with the onions. Add the grated carrots and bell peppers and mix well. Cover and cook until the beef is thoroughly cooked.
  6. Put the cooked meat in a bowl to cool down.
  7. Remove the dough from the fridge and roll it on a floured surface. Cut with a round cutter into equal circles.
  8. Put a spoonful of the meat mixture on the centre of the dough circles and wet the edges with water, then fold the circle to form a semi circle. Press the edges with a folk to seal them.
  9. In a small mixing bowl, beat the egg mixed with 1 table spoon of milk and brush the meat pie dough.
  10. Bake in the oven on 180 degrees for 20 minutes or until the top is golden in color.
