Ingredients For Making Meat Pies
For The Fillings
- 250 g minced beef
- 1 bell pepper cut into small cubes
- 2 carrots grated
- 1 onion cut into small cubes
- 5 garlic cloves crushed
- 1 tbs. cooking oil
- 1/4 tsp. thyme
- salt to taste
For The Crust Pastry
- 225 g wheat flour
- 125 g butter
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 160 ml cold water
- 1 egg
- 1 tbs. milk
How To Prepare Meat Pies
- Sieve the wheat flour into a mixing bowl, add the butter, salt and rub in the butter into the the wheat flour to form bread crumbs consistency.
- Add the water bit by bit mixing with your hand to form a dough. Gently press and fold the dough a few times to bring it together. Don’t overwork the dough.
- Put the dough in a zip lock bag or plastic bag and refrigerate for 30 minutes or more.
- As the dough is in the fridge, put a sauce pan on heat and add some cooking oil, add the onions and sauté them, then add the garlic and cook for about 2 minutes.
- Add the thyme and cook for 2 minutes. Add the minced beef and mix well with the onions. Add the grated carrots and bell peppers and mix well. Cover and cook until the beef is thoroughly cooked.
- Put the cooked meat in a bowl to cool down.
- Remove the dough from the fridge and roll it on a floured surface. Cut with a round cutter into equal circles.
- Put a spoonful of the meat mixture on the centre of the dough circles and wet the edges with water, then fold the circle to form a semi circle. Press the edges with a folk to seal them.
- In a small mixing bowl, beat the egg mixed with 1 table spoon of milk and brush the meat pie dough.
- Bake in the oven on 180 degrees for 20 minutes or until the top is golden in color.
