Whole Wheat Burger Buns are made with whole wheat flour which offers a denser and healthier alternative which offers a nutty flavor.

Whole Wheat Burger Buns are soft and sturdy enough to hold up to the fillings without falling apart. In this recipe, i am using bread flour which contains more proteins than all purpose flour.

Bread flour produces a better textured bread which is more chewier and rises more compared to all purpose flour. The high protein has more gluten, which allows the dough to raise more.

Ingredients For Making Whole Wheat Burger Buns

Whole wheat flour 320 g

Milk 200 ml

1 tbsp. milk for Brushing

Butter 45 g

Instant Yeast 1/2 tsp.

1 egg for brushing

1 tbsp. Sesame seeds

Salt 1/2 tsp.

How To Make Whole Wheat Burger Buns

  1. In a mixing bowl, add the yeast, sugar, salt and milk and whisk together until the sugar and yeast dissolve.
  2. Add the wheat flour and start mixing slowly for about 10 minutes until the dough is of a shaggy consistency.
  3. Add the butter at this point and continue mixing until the dough is soft for about 5 minutes.
  4. The dough is sticky and that is how it should be for it to produce soft buns. When it stretches without tearing or breaking and it is a thin membrane that you can see through, then it is ready.
  5. Oil a bowl and put the dough in it and cover with a kitchen cloth. Put in a warm place for it to proof for 1 hour.
  6. Cut into equal portions depending on the size you want. I made 100m g sizes. Roll them into balls and put them into a burger tin, cover with a kitchen cloth and proof for 30 minutes.
  7. Separate the egg and mix the egg yolk with 1 table spoon of milk, mix together and brush the buns.
  8. Sprinkle the sesame seeds allover the top of the buns.
  9. Bake in a pre heated oven at 150 degrees for 30 minutes.
