Chicken Nuggets

Chicken Nuggets pinit

I started making homemade chicken nuggets after getting tired of frozen nuggets that either tasted bland or had that weird rubbery texture inside. Once I made them from scratch the first time, I honestly stopped buying the frozen ones nearly as much because homemade just tastes way better.

The outside gets crispy and golden while the chicken inside stays juicy and flavorful. They’re simple, filling, and one of those meals that disappears ridiculously fast once everyone starts eating. I’ve made these for quick dinners, snacks, game nights, and honestly random lazy weekends when comfort food sounded good. If you already enjoy recipes like Homemade Chicken Tenders, Smoked Chicken Fritters, or Baked Potato Pizza, these chicken nuggets fit perfectly into that easy homemade comfort-food rotation.

Why You Will Love These Chicken Nuggets

What I love most about these nuggets is how crispy they get while still staying juicy inside.

The seasoning also gives them way more flavor compared to basic frozen nuggets honestly.

Another thing I like is that you can bake, fry, or air fry them depending on what works best for you.

They’re also really freezer-friendly, which makes them great for meal prep or busy weeks.

What You Will Need For Chicken Nuggets

A food processor works best if you want smoother fast-food-style nuggets, although chopped chicken also works perfectly fine.

You’ll also need shallow bowls for coating the nuggets without making a huge mess.

A large skillet or baking tray works depending on whether you want to fry or bake them.

If you’re air frying, a simple air fryer basket helps get them extra crispy without much oil.

Ingredients Needed

  • 1½ pounds chicken breast
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Oil for frying or cooking spray for baking

How To Make The Nuggets

Cut the chicken into nugget-sized pieces or pulse briefly in a food processor for smoother nuggets.

In one bowl, add flour.

Take another bowl and add the eggs, whisk them.

In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.

Dip each chicken piece into the flour, then egg, then breadcrumb mixture.

For frying, heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the nuggets until golden and fully cooked through.

For baking, place the nuggets onto a lined baking tray, spray lightly with cooking spray, and bake at 220°C (425°F) for about 18 to 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

I usually make extra because leftovers disappear fast honestly. These chicken nuggets also go really well with Mixed Cucumber Salad, Strawberry Lemonade, or even Buttermilk Cornbread Muffins if you’re putting together dinner.

Tips For Chicken Nuggets

Try not to overcrowd the pan while frying or the nuggets will not crisp properly.

Panko breadcrumbs give even crispier nuggets if you have them.

Cutting the chicken into similar sizes helps everything cook evenly.

Let the nuggets rest for a minute after cooking so the coating stays crisp.
