Ingredients For Making French Onion Potato Bake

  • 3 large onions, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 5 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp, cooking oil
  • 300 ml cream
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 150 ml sour cream
  • 200 g shredded mozzarella cheeses
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. white pepper powder
  • 1 tsp. dried thyme

How To Prepare French Onion Potato Bake

  1. Put the potatoes in a bowl, add 1/2 teaspoon white pepper powder, some salt to taste, thyme and half teaspoon garlic powder and 1 teaspoon oil, mix together to combine everything well.
  2. Put a skillet on medium heat, melt the butter and add the onions and sugar, cook for about 15 minutes or until they are golden and soft.
  3. Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees.
  4. Take a mixing bowl, add the cream, sour milk, some salt to taste, 1/2 teaspoon white pepper powder and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, whisk together until well combined.
  5. Grease a baking proof dish, layer half the potatoes in the dish, then add half the caramelized onions. Pour over half the cream mixture and repeat the layers, finishing with the cream on top.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly on top and cover with foil and bake for 50 minutes on 180 degrees. Remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve while still hot. You can serve as a side dish for roast chicken, steak or on grilled veggies.
