Sausage Rolls

Sausage Rolls pinit

Last year, I made sausage rolls for the first time after trying them at a holiday gathering and honestly wondering why I had never made them at home before. The combination of flaky pastry and savory sausage filling seemed so simple, but after one bite I completely understood why they were so popular. Once I finally made a batch myself, they quickly became one of my favorite things to serve for parties, snacks, and casual get-togethers. The golden, buttery pastry wrapped around the flavorful sausage filling makes them incredibly hard to resist.

These sausage rolls bake up golden and crisp on the outside while staying juicy and flavorful inside. They’re perfect for parties, snacks, lunches, or even easy dinners with a salad on the side. If you already enjoy recipes like Ham And Cheese Sliders, Cheese Croquettes, or Cuban Ham Croquettes, these sausage rolls fit perfectly into that homemade comfort-food rotation.

Why You Will Love These Sausage Rolls

What I love most about this recipe is the flaky pastry. It becomes beautifully golden and crisp while the sausage filling stays tender and juicy.

The ingredients are simple and easy to find, which honestly makes these great for last-minute gatherings.

Another thing I like is that they can be served warm or at room temperature.

They’re also easy to make ahead and reheat when needed.

What You Will Need For Sausage Rolls

A baking sheet works best because it allows the pastry to bake evenly.

You’ll also need a mixing bowl for preparing the sausage filling.

A sharp knife helps cut the pastry into neat pieces.

If you want extra golden pastry, a pastry brush honestly makes a big difference.

Ingredients For Sausage Rolls

For The Filling

  • 1 pound sausage meat
  • ½ small onion, finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • ½ teaspoon paprika

For The Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten

How To Make Sausage Rolls

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a bowl, combine the sausage meat, onion, garlic powder, black pepper, parsley, and paprika.

Roll out the puff pastry slightly and cut it into long rectangles.

Shape the sausage mixture into logs and place them along one edge of each pastry strip.

Brush the pastry edges lightly with beaten egg.

Roll the pastry around the sausage filling and seal the edge.

Cut into smaller pieces.

Place the sausage rolls seam-side down on the baking sheet.

Brush the tops with the remaining beaten egg.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown and fully cooked.

Allow them to cool slightly before serving.

I usually make a double batch because honestly they disappear incredibly fast whenever people see them. These sausage rolls also go really well with Armenian Salad, Egyptian Salad Recipe, or Mixed Vegetable Salad for a complete meal.

Tips For Sausage Rolls

Cold puff pastry is easier to work with and helps create flakier layers.

Do not overfill the pastry or it can split while baking.

A sprinkle of sesame seeds on top adds extra texture and flavor.

Serving them with mustard or a simple dipping sauce honestly makes them even better.
