Watermelon Lemonade

One hot afternoon, I had half a watermelon sitting in the refrigerator and a bowl of fresh lemons on the counter. Instead of cutting the watermelon into slices again, I decided to blend it with freshly squeezed lemon juice and a little sugar to see what would happen. The result was a refreshing Watermelon Lemonade that disappeared much faster than I expected, and it’s been one of my favorite summer recipes ever since.

This watermelon lemonade is sweet, tangy, and incredibly refreshing. Fresh watermelon gives the drink its beautiful color and natural sweetness, while the lemon juice adds just the right amount of brightness. Whether you’re relaxing by the pool, hosting a barbecue, or simply trying to cool off on a warm day, this homemade lemonade is always a great choice. If you already enjoy recipes like Strawberry Lemonade, Blueberry Lemonade, or Creamy Strawberry Lemonade, you’ll definitely want to add this one to your collection.

Why You Will Love This Watermelon Lemonade

What I love most about this recipe is how refreshing it tastes. The juicy watermelon and fresh lemons create a drink that’s light, fruity, and perfect for warm weather.

Another reason I make it so often is that it uses just a few simple ingredients. In fact, you probably already have most of them at home during watermelon season.

On top of that, it’s easy to customize. You can make it sweeter, add sparkling water for a fizzy version, or toss in fresh mint for extra flavor.

Finally, it comes together in just a few minutes. Simply blend, strain if desired, and serve over plenty of ice.

What You Will Need For Watermelon Lemonade

Blender

A blender quickly turns the watermelon into a smooth juice.

Fine Mesh Strainer

Use a strainer if you prefer a smoother lemonade without pulp.

Citrus Juicer

A citrus juicer makes squeezing fresh lemons quick and easy.

Large Pitcher

A pitcher is perfect for mixing and serving the lemonade.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups seedless watermelon, cubed
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4 to 6 lemons)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar, or more to taste
  • 3 cups cold water
  • 2 cups ice cubes

Optional Garnish

  • Watermelon wedges
  • Lemon slices
  • Fresh mint leaves

How To Make Watermelon Lemonade

Add the watermelon cubes to a blender.

Blend until completely smooth.

If you prefer a smoother drink, pour the watermelon juice through a fine mesh strainer into a large pitcher.

Next, add the freshly squeezed lemon juice, sugar, and cold water.

Stir until the sugar completely dissolves.

Taste the lemonade and add more sugar or lemon juice if needed.

Add the ice cubes to the pitcher or individual serving glasses.

Pour the watermelon lemonade over the ice.

Garnish with watermelon wedges, lemon slices, and fresh mint before serving.

I usually chill the lemonade for about 30 minutes before serving because the flavors blend together even more as it sits. However, if you’re short on time, pouring it over plenty of ice works just as well. This drink pairs perfectly with Cajun Chicken Sandwich, Chicken Wrap With Avocado Salsa, or Black Beans And Corn Salad for an easy summer meal.

Tips For The Best Watermelon Lemonade

Choose a ripe, sweet watermelon for the best flavor.

Always use freshly squeezed lemon juice because it tastes much brighter than bottled juice.

Adjust the sugar depending on how sweet your watermelon is.

For a sparkling version, honestly replace some of the water with chilled sparkling water just before serving.
